Today will be spent in the Gulf of Alaska travelling to Glacier Bay. Nothing to see but sea, oh but someone did point out Mount Denali in the distance. However, it did give us a chance to get to know our little floating hotel.
We start the day with the huge breakfast we ordered in our cabin before attending a presentation on the available excursions which was held in the Mondriaan Lounge. At the end of the presentation we were told to check under the tables to see if we had won a free gift. Steve was quick off the mark and grabbed one before the woman sitting next to him. it was one free ticket for the Misty Fjords in Ketchikan on Friday. We sat out on deck with a cup of tea and planned our excursions for the 3 days we are in dock.
I fully intended to go to a photo-editing workshop, but we bumped into Shirley and Richard in the Lido Restaurant and got chatting which was much more fun.
We had a wander around the many shops on board, most of their extortionate prices way beyond what we are willing to pay. However, I did treat myself to a lovely ring that caught my eye - well, it was in the sale!
After the rush had passed we went to book our excursions, bumping in to Jen and her son 'Young Al' (who must be all of 30) who decided to join us on the same excursions. We spent the rest of the day together which was very pleasant and we learned more about the lives of this lovely pair from Australia.
It was 'Formal Dress' in the restaurant this evening and we amused ourselves in watching just how formal people were prepared to get! We chose to eat more casually on this occasion.
Steve and I decided to walk a couple of rounds of the deck - 4 = 1 mile. We got a bit distracted by beer in the piano lounge. George was crooning and playing his guitar and piano followed by 'Jamm the piano man on the Zaandam'. Jamm was quite good, if a little over the top with his renditions from the musicals and it was a good place to people-watch. It was strange to see the t-shirts and jeans mixing with the dinner jackets and evening dresses.
There is a 'towel seal' on our bed when we return. We decided to have breakfast in our cabin again tomorrow.
