Glenn's Travels
The last couple of days have been spent at the very laid-back Byron Bay. I got here on Wednesday - travelling from Brisbane, and checked myself into Main Beach Backpackers for two nights. I've done a couple of dives with Sundive, one yesterday and one today. They were a lot of fun, and quite different from up North. Firstly, visibilty was only about 5 metres, which is poor, the water was marginally colder (20oC), and there was a different type of marine life. A whole lot of Woobegong sharks (one swam right past my head, nearly into my face), huge lobsters, shrimps, turtles, cod, torpedo fish, and lots more. On top of that, on the first dive I could actually hear humpback whales singing to each other. It was amazing. While we were on the surface (which was incredibly choppy may I add), we saw a few whales breaching, but it was an altogether different experience to actually hear them. Awesome. So that's me up to 20 dives. Not bad going. The rest of my time in Byron Bay has been spent relaxing, reading, watching TV, generally hanging out. There's a couple of great cafes and shops here, so I've been around them too. A couple of days is enough here though, and tonight I'm heading down to Sydney. 13 hours on the bus. In the past, that would have horrified me, but now, it's not a problem. Especially considering the fact that it's overnight. Touch wood my lucky streak will hold out and I'll get another two seats to myself. Sydney, here I come.
