Day 6 - Birdsville to Boulia
Today we drove about 180 km on dirt and sealed roads. We were in the Simpson Dessert for the first 190km so the countryside was flat between the sand dunes. There was a lot of gibber stone and sand. After Bedourie it was flat with a hill every so often and not much growing taller than a foot.
We stopped and had a lok at the waddi trees. They are only found in 3 areas in Australia and 2 of the areas were on the road today. Waddi is a very hard wood and has been known to break axes and saws.
We passed a sign with heaps of boots and shoes hanging off it, a few bits of old household goods set up in an arc and a concrete garden setting in the middle of nowhere. Very amusing.
We stopped at an artesian bore and down the track saw heaps of emus.
We had lunch at Bedourie and visited the info centre. They are getting ready for the camel races and rodeo. Bedourie is a really small town but has a fantastic play area. Xanthe would love it.
After Bedourie we saw lots of brolgas with 3 or 4 together. We stopped at a new lookout with really good signage on some history of the area. I never cease to be amazed at our pioneers.
We arrived at Boulia at 3:40 and went straight to the info centre to book into the last Min Min Lights show for the day.
The Min Min Lights are lights that people have seen at night in the area over the last 100 years. No one has worked out what causes them and there is no reason for them to occur. It is a real mystery . The show was very good and well worth seeing. Boulia is a very small town too but bigger than Boulia

Vicki Kirchhofer Sounds like a great trip. Love your blogs. had a good night last night at our social. about 35 people so that was good, because it was a cold night
