We finally made it to Bangkok on thursday and have had an eventful few days!
We arrived in bangkok down the khao san road which at 6am was completely dead and every single hostel was full. We eventually found somewhere and entered into our luxurious room. The walls had holes in and were bendy with big brown cellotape covering a hole that was about twice the size of my head! The aircon continuously leaks on us and the corridor has UV lighting outside which entered our room through a nice square window! and our floor was covered in ants!!!!!!!! Its called the Sawasdee Smile Inn and ironically no one smiles...except the asian girls that are here with their delicious old fat western men...Perverts everywhere!
The first day we had a very helpful man tell us some good spots to see around bangkok and helped us get a tuk tuk to drive us around all day...saw some temples and had a look round the city - then there was the catch! we insisted they were not to take us to any tailor shops and thought we had covered all bases on the scam front and then ended up in a tourist operator shop being told which tours we should do which were massively overpriced. In the end we asked to leave to which the man ''helping'' us told us we were wasting HIS time! These people are horrendously pushy and its grating on me slightly! We told mr tuk tuk to take us back and asked if he knew of any ping pong shows that were on in the evening. Now me and sophie are not perverts but you hear about these ''ping pong'' shows and we figured it would be a bit of a laugh. Well later on Mr tuk tuk turned up...with a can of beer in his hand telling us he was coming with us and his brother was driving us. Alarm bells did ring a little but we figured if anything happened we were just going to attack him with the mosquito spray we had in our bag. He turned out to just be a friendly man who fancied a bit of a laugh too luckily! We arrived at this dingy little strip joint and sat front row for the show. The show consisted of a variety of sketches including ping pongs to bananas and even razors at one point coming out of orrifices which i will leave for you to imagine!! It all got a bit much for us when a man got on stage and started to have sex with one of the other women. That was our queue to leave with our stomaches turning and our eyes feeling quite violated. I do not reccomend these shows to anyone and I am not impressed with those who recommended it to me!!! ha! We went down the khao san road afterwards and had a beer to just decipher what exactly had just happened to us!
Yesterday we took a trip to tiger temple which again was bizarre. The language barrier is an absolute nightmare as you have no idea whats going on. We drove for about 3 hours and then got dropped off at the river kwai were we were told to go into the war museum...Now call me uncultured but seriously not up for museums just wanted to see baby tigers! After an hour of that they finally took us to the tigers which was a bit of an anti climax in the sense the tigers appeared half dead after the s*** load of drugs they'd given them to keep them sedated. It was still pretty cool to stroke them and stuff and be that close but overall its just an advert for animal cruelty really.
Today we are leaving bangkok to head up to Laos for the tubing. Not sure what to expect as sophie has scared us by looking it up and reading horror stories about the place but as I have never heard first hand any bad things I am ignoring this and looking forward to it!
Will keep you updated with any further progressions
Miss you all
