Krems! What a lovely resort.
A beautiful Austrian city, not so big (50,000 people), nice view, Danube river nearby and it's very very quiet all the time.
I would definately recommend it as a place to just calm down, take a few comfortable hiking routes in the area, visit the nearby monestary and just basically relax.
There's not much to do in this white wine county, so you can't really expect exciting parties and lively streets. In fact, most of the stores close around 6:00 P.M. so if you need anything - don't wait until sundown!
We did, However tried some great cocktails (funny names like "Dirty motherf***er" and "Slippery nipple", and then for some reason one of the guys bought us all a shot of Rum.
I know what Rum is supposed to taste like, but this Rum shot was special, as it had 74% of alcohol. It tastes just like gasoline, 95 octane.
The next day we had a great weather, so Daniela decided we should hike up to an old fort in the area, from which we have a spectacular viewof the Danube. It is told that king Lionheart himself was held prisoner in that fort once, so we tried the jail ourselves and it was very comfortable (no cold wind at least).
From there we went on so see a monastery on a hill that was built in the 1900's, It's very beautiful and fancy (which I thought is a bit odd place for monks to live their simple lives), but it's a lovely place to visit and the view was spectacular.
In the evening we had dinner in a lovely restaurant and I had deer steak. It was awesome, but the real winner of the night was Daniela - eating a big beef Fillet and having such a satisfied look in her eyes that just says it all... ;)
Soon I'll be leaving Krems to tour a little bit of Vienna, accompanied by my lovely tour guide Daniela, who doesn't really know alot about history, geography or other facts about the resgion, but can choose great restaurants and translate authentic Austrian cuisine names very well :D
I'll be updating from there hopefully, as my next stop is Bolivia and I'm not so sure about internet connection there...
So until then - Goodbye my friends and keep in touch!
Gilad.
