So, it's Tuesday and a day of change, Jayne Grant & myself are moving out of The Dorsett Hotel, Clive & Gail will be flying to New Zealand to stay with Cousin Alf. Lloyd, Spencer & Owen will be also be flying, but going back to Blighty. So with this in mind we're all shaking like rapists after staying up all night drinking and even when we'd had enough, we all headed to Lloyd's room to raid the mini bar and drink some more when we got back home at silly o' clock.
So now it's 11am, Clive, Gail, Jayne & me are all up and ready to check out of the hotel, the lads are still in zombie mode so we tell them to catch us up. We check out and head to the Airport Express, Clive & Gail can check their bags in and sort out yesterdays problem regarding carrying Dangerous Goods to New Zealand. It's a good system that you can check in and lob your bags to be carted off to the plane. Dont forget we're in the middle of the city and this system works really well, Once the bags are slung on the train, you are free to while away the hours before you head to the airport. So everything gets sorted and we then head upstairs to get some coffee and some scran, first we ring the lads and tell them to hurry up. Clive & Gail opt for a sit down with a coffee and a Danish, Jayne & me head to the Maccie D's for some reason, I think it's called the Sausage Egg McMuffin Hangover Cure. Time flies by and there's still no sign of the lads, so a call is made and we find that instead of getting in a taxi, they've jumped on the Hotel Shuttlebus and are going green and getting dizzy going round and round in circles through Causeway Bay and Wanchai. Eventually they arrive and so we make sure everyone gets a coffee or whatever to wake up. Jayne, Grant & me then head up to Robinson Road as we're now moving into The Bishop Lei Hotel, which is next to a place we lived in a long time ago, we hear that the Hotel could do with modernisation but we know that the views are very good. We check in after a while and get a very good room overlooking the Botanical Gardens and the former Governor's Residence and then looking into the Financial Centre. It's very good. Soon everyone else catches up with us, as the boys are going to leave their bags with us as they'll be shipping out later on. We show everyone the view and it gets given the thumbs up. We all then head down to the mid levels escalator to have some more coffee and whatnots. We opt for a place called The Feather & Bone, an up market sort of Cafe really and very nice it was. So we all have some more to eat and drink more coffee.
We then say our farewells to Gail & Clive as they're now going to walk down the escalator to the Airport Express as in a few hours they'll be heading to New Zealand. The lads too will be heading off back to Blighty, but that's a bit later so we ditch their bags in our hotel and go for a walk through the Botanical Gardens, I used to like this zoo but now I think it's a bit sad and wish we hadnt gone there. Next up, we're going to try the Peak Tram........well we did try, there was no way we were going to get on that, there were thousands and thousands of mainland Chinese visitors queueing round the block to get on board. It's obviously one of those things that has to be done if you're visiting from the mainland. We opt for a cab but it's at that funny time that everyone who has lived in Hong Kong will know about.....it's when the taxi drivers change shifts.....taxis become scarce....and the ones that do show up dont really want to take you anywhere. So there's a bit of fun and games until the shift change is over and a glut of taxis show up. We then head to The Peak Tower...again this is rammed with tourists, so I take everyone for a walk on Lugard Road, which is a walking trail of about two miles. Jayne heads back to the Peak and we say we'll catch her later. In all honesty we probably shouldnt have done this mini hike as we have walked a lot. Lloyd in particular was suffering, so once back at the Peak we got a Taxi back to the Hotel for everyone to have a bit of R,n,R before heading off to the Airport Express. Lloyd had a kip for an hour and a bit and was back in tip top condition after that. We then took the lads down to the Outdoor Bar on the Star Ferry Building for a couple of beers. We then said our goodbyes and the lads vanished down the stairs and onto the Train.
As for us, we met back up with Jayne in Mid Levels and headed to Sheung Wan, now this has changed a lot, there's nice bars and restaurants here, it makes sense as the rents are cheaper and would explain why the old places are quiet - it's all going on here. If only we'd known earlier. Hey ho, PPP by PPB. Leave a comment and I'll tell you what that means.

Gareth Gibbs I remember it all after my several visits to HK including being there the day & night of the Hand Back. Sad that the park should be so different as it was a rather lovely place, the lungs of HK. I hope your liver survives the ‘holiday’! Pa.
Gareth Gibbs Any phoito’s of the views from Bishop L Hotel?
