Hello everyone. Before we start we have updated the Cape Town journal as we forgot to add a day. Its about the Cape Pennisula Tour.
Well we are now in Hong Kong. The flight over here was amazing but long. We flew with Singapore Airlines which had amazing leg room and really comfy seats which reclined quite far back. The flight was 16hours in total as we had to change at Singapore and then fly to Hong Kong. We each had our own TV and remote control and could watch whatever we wanted. We could also play computer games. The food was tasty as well. The best flight yet!
Hong Kong is a great city although very big. Thursday we landed and went to our hotel. We slept for a bit and then went out to all the back street shops and resturants. There is alot of street food which smells absoutley discusting and also looks terrible. It made Gemma's eyes water. Its just how you imagine Hong Kong to be with all the neon signs and alot of light pollution.
Friday we went to the Hong Kong Space museum and also watched a film about speed in a huge dome which the entire domed celing was the screen. This was very weird but good. There is also an Avenue of Stars which is like Hollywood Boulevard with lots of famous peoples stars and their hand prints. There was a statue of Jackie Chan which Darren loved. We then watched a light show in the evening which is like the photo above. All the buildings do light effects in time with music. This is the biggest light show in the world.
Saturday we went to see the biggest sitting down Buddah in the world. It took an hour and a half to get there but it was great. We first got a boat across the river to Hong Kong Island and then got another boat to LanTu Island. We then got a coach from there. Its right in the mountains. We forgot to count how many steps up it was but it was very high. The weather was great up there. We could see sunshine which was great. Hong Kong is covered in smog all the time and is very humid so it was nice to get away from all that. Hong Kong is very busy with people everywhere. Everyone is trying to sell you 'Copy Watches' or 'Handbags'. You just have to keep saying no firmly. In the end Darren joined in and started saying 'copy watches' to them before they had a chance to ask us :o)
Sunday we went to Hong Kong Island. We are actually staying in Kowloon which is across the river but still classed as Hong Kong. We got a boat across the river which cost 12pence. Very cheap. We then went for a walk around and found the worlds largest esculator. Its 800metres long. Its split up into different parts and goes half way up the mountain. Its great. Once at the top we got a tram up to the top of the mountain to see the views of Hong Kong. The tram was great although very steep in places. There was a viewing tower at the top and we couldnt see much due to the smog over the city of Hong Kong once again. We saw the sun which was nice. There was alot of things to do up there. One of them was playing the newest computer games out in a big arena. Darren was playing games that are not even out in the UK yet. Gemma was playing against a member of staff and she won the race. We had lunch in a French Cafe. We got the tram back down and while waiting for the bus we saw two brides. One was having her photo taken on some steps and the other was getting onto a scooter with her groom. It was great to watch and an interesting mode of wedding transport. She sat on most of her dress. She looked lovely. We kept seeing them around town after that. We got an open top bus to the boat port and it was great fun.
Guess what we did on Monday......
We went to Disneyland Hong Kong. Wow what great fun we had. Its not a big as Florida's Magic Kingdom, but its so much better than Paris. It cost 20pounds to get in each and was definatly worth it. We saw alot of characters and went on alot of rides. Including Space Mountain which we ended up going on 10 times as it wasn't too busy. So we could jump off, run round and jump back on again. We had such an amazing day. Gemma brought a 'Stitch' tee-shirt. Darrens favourite was Philarmagic which is in Florida and is a 3D show with smells as well. We did this 3 times. We watched the firework show over the castle in the evening. The castle is so small compared to Florida but its nice. The food here is cheap again.
Today we are getting the overnight train to Shanghi. Its a 24 and a half hour journey. We will update again when we get to Shanghi. We love Hong Kong, its just abit mad. 4 or 5 days is more than enough here.
Keep sending us emails and messages.
Lots of love Gemma and Darren xxx
PS we are having major trouble uploading the photos where we are at the moment. We have still got some photos of South Africa to upload yet so hopefully we will do it soon. Sorry its taken so long to update. The computers here are few and far between and when we find one, which is nice and fast, the USB port is not working.
