During my travels I have met lots of people who recommend a visit to Pai, I wanted to see for myself what it was truly like.
I stayed in Common Grounds hostel which I would recommend if you are travelling an a group or with a couple of others otherwise it can be a little intimidating.
When I arrived I met up with some girls I met on the elephant jungle trip and in my hostel in Chiang Mai and we managed to strike a deal with a taxi company. We hired a taxi for the whole day where we took a loop around Pai stopping at all the major sites in the area, costing only £3 each for the whole day.
First stop: Pai Hot Springs
A natural hot spring in the middle of nowhere only costing 20baht to enter (Warning - there is another man made hot spring that costs 200baht to get in which the taxi drivers will try and take you too). Definitely worth a visit, very relaxing after all the walking around Chiang Mai.
Second stop: Mor Paeng Waterfal
Mor Paeng Waterfall is located northwest of Pai town, past several small villages. After arriving, you descend a steep hill and cross paths of rocks to get to it.
One of the girls I was with persuaded me it would be fun to slide down the waterfall...the water was freezing and definitely an experience!
Next stop: Pai View Point
As the name suggests
Last stop: Pai Canyon
Pai Canyon is about six or seven kilometers south of town. When you arrive you climb a steep trail through the woods, then arrive at the incredible viewpoint.
There are multiple trails to walk, I am glad I had my walking boots on as some points you had to crawl on all fours when the trail got narrow.
I visited the canyon twice once during the day and again at sunset. This is a place you could definitely spend hours gazing into the distance.
The night market in Pai is great for grabbing dinner for a couple of pounds.
I would recommend a visit to Art in Chai if you fancy a chilled evening listening to live music. The cafe makes the best chai tea, coffee and cakes.
