Fullaaar and Cleo Around the World
So it's our last night in Thailand tonight, we seem to have been constantly moving around, we've been to four different places in three weeks and Thailand is pretty big. The bus from Cambodia dropped us off in Bangkok so we stayed there for a night before getting another bus right down to the south to a place called Krabi. Arrived at five in the morning and were accosted by travel agents as soon as we stepped off the bus, but managed to avoid agreeing to any tours or extortionate hotel rates but they did grossly overcharge us for the taxi to our hostel but at five in the morning, you don't really care!
Met some really cool Thai people who ran a guesthouse across the road from our hostel, I don't know how it actually managed to stay afloat though 'coz despite its income being from the bar and travel servces, they only sold beer, and when we asked for wine they drove us to an off license to get some to drink in the bar, which was pretty cool reallly. They also tried to arange the diving for us on Kho Phiphi (apparently run by some ex-Wimbledon footballer) but it was too expensive there so we didn't even book that thorugh them but they didn't really seem to care.
Krabi was pretty nice, went to a hot spring which was weird, its just this kind of waterfall but its really hot, like being in a shower. Nick had sunburn though so wasn't too impressed by it. He preferred the emerald pool that we went to after. We arrived really late and to get to it there was about a 20 minute walk through jungle. The sun was starting to set when we arrived and I kept thinking s***, we're gonna get lost in the jungle in thailand somewhere, but when we got to the pool it was deserted. It was much better than it would have been with loads of people there and we made it back before the the jungle became too scary. We did have to run most of the way though!
Went to Kho Tao next on an overnight ferry which was not the most pleasant experience. We had allocated "beds" but somehow, mine and Nicks numbers seemed to merge into one space instead of two so it was cosy to say the least. And, just before we left, four cockrels got on and Nick was feeding me scare stories about bird flu but I think we're okay! When we arrived spent a couple of hours in a cafe with two guts from Austria trying to decide which dive school to go with, with Nick and one of the Austrians driving off all over the island to check out where was best. Didn't really do much else on Kho Tao other than diving but we both really enjoyed taht and now we are qualified PADI divers. Its really weird getting used to breathing underwater but definitely worth the effort. I felt like I was in a magic eye picture with the little 3D fishes swimming all around. I think Nick took to it more than me as he now wants to become an instructor and move to Thailand.
Next we went to Kho Phagnan which is famous for the Full Moon Parties but unfortunately we weren't there for a full moon but we did manage a half moon party. I think it has become a bit too commercial now, there were loads of English chav's and way too much R 'n B music for my liking but we did see some good fire poi.
We hired a motorbike so we could explore the island, and if you want whiplash, get on a motorbike with Nick driving!! Also went to a waterfall there which involved a 400 m uphill jungle climb to get there which is pretty hard work when its 30 degrees, especially when Nick decides he is not going to be like normal things and take the path of least resistance, but find the most things possible to climb around. Anyway we got to the top and we found a spider that was more interesting than the waterfall (I think its better in rainy season).
Last stop here has been Bangkok and it hasn't been as busy and chaotic as we were led to believe. Pretty much the only thing to do here is shopping (unless you wanna see temples but we've done that loads already) so three days drags a bit. Nick got fitted for some tailor made suits today (dunno what he needs those for!) and we have bought so much stuff we're gonna have to send some home just so we can actually close our bags.
Think the night life here is meant to be pretty good but we're not staying in the backpacker area and its pretty hard to get to so we're mostly too poor to go out drinking. Went to an English pub the other day though (by mistake) and I was the only English girl there, it was full of English men with their Thai brides.
Anyway, I'm sure you're all bored of hearing about our adventures and I gotta go and pack up my vast amouints of stuff into my far too small bag.
Hope you are all well, and once again, Happy Birthday Paddy!!
