Wandering Europe
All the other pics i cant use cause i may need em for later.....this one however is intitled mi casa es su casa.....well it is appropriote cause ray hit me up with a whole bunch of names and places i can stay....even one in the city i am in now.....so i think i am next goign to give a ring over there and maybe stop in just to say hi cause i actually was trying to be smart and get my tix ahead a time.....so my next town is definantly milano at 1250 tom.....and i already have to pay for my campsite for tonight so mine as well stay there.....
well that night in girona i went out to dinner with stephan and koen....it was a great little time.....we talked a lot about the differences in the schools and prices and such....in the neitherlands they pay 1300 a yr to go but also get pd 200 a month......that confused me but i kinda went with it due to the language......well we all tried the rabbit cause none of use ever had it...catalonian style of course.....was good tastes like chicken......little more tender and some tiny bones to watch out for......then we wandered a bit and they headed to the hostel and i might have chatted with someone from harwinton for a little bit......then i headed for bed and it was intresting change from barcelona as i was the last one in at 1230......this was also a HI hostel which means it is truely no profit and part of the international hostel association deal.....it means that it is more family oriented generally....so there are families who stay, church and school groups, little more diverse instead of just backpackers which are the main traffic in a lot of the private ones......those private ones tend to be more social because it is all about the same age characters in it.....
(i need to sidetrack for a momment cause i have been meaningot mention about la rambla the road in barcelona and kept forgetting......well it is the road to be on...it has what is described as imense shopping and restaurants and tons of people watching......well here is my take on it.....it is quite long maybe even a mile long....the shopping there is quite a bit of but it is mainly restaurants and food deals...the restuarants usually have a sitting area and the waitors are always having to cross the road to get to it.....the rest of the shopping stores are tourist stores all labled souveniers....and they are clearly all owned by one person as they all have the same things for sale.....there is one about every 50 feet......oh yeh this road is intresting cause it is opposite a regualr road......cars travel on the side and people walk in the middle....there are also traditional sidewalks where a sidewalk would be so that you have access tot he stores......then there is the magazine shops.....one maybe every 75 in the middle portion of the walking road.....big newstands with every magizine imaginable and some souveniers.....then as you get to the west end of the street there are tons of animals for sale......birds, lizards, dogs, cats, turtles, etc......all outragiously priced.....prolly cause you think your getting some exotic pet but it is the same we have at home......the mini turtles they have were 12 bucks each......i remember a similar pet sale at quinnipiac and the turtles were 5.....and quinnipiac is pretty ritzy......but then there is the street preformers.......they might possibly make the road what it is.....people who are really good at striking a pose and holding it......they dress up in all kinds of crazy costumes complete with a place in front of them for cash......toss some money in and they move all funky to a new position.......some of the not so talented somes pose for you and try a lure in approach rather then the forementioned deal......but they pose for the pics and then expect a little in return......there were bull fighters, jesus and mary, swordsman, guy falling from roof (hard to explain), and lots of unrecognizable things that are just funky....then at night there is a street team of gymnists that hit up the streets preforming for the eating corwds....they did some impressive things but onyl every so often.....the rest of the time was like fill in little stunts and lots of talk about what they were gonna do and waitign for the right time when people walking were not in the way.....as i once was...oops....then there is the beggars....they are evrywhere...some have a physical deformity but most just beg for cash....come right up to you and jinggle change in their hand......even when at resturants and such and the restuarnats pretty much allow it.....a form of street preformance i suppose......not so much musical ones but they were in othe rplaces in the city......so yeh once you travel down about 100 feet of this street you have seen it all....the rest is just copied and pasted.....intresting none the less.....there are some actaul shops scattered about and hotels and such......so that is the street to be on.....)
anyway so the next mornign i awoke at 830 and went for the free breakfast and found that the school group that was living on like 2 floors of the building all went to breakfast at 830 as well.......oh such a line.....and i thought kids were cute these were brats......pushed and shoved.....and then they would get back in line with thier friends in front of you for seconds......i wanted to tell the teacher.....haha.......it was a great breakfats though......most hostels it is quite meagar but this one went all out cearal and choices galore.....headed back to the room and started to pack up....stephan and koen had departed and we said goodbye.....well then andy was left and he was originally from italy but now lived in spain......well he asked me about my plans and then said well maybe i will go with you......it was kinda forward but he had a car and such and in speaking with him he just needed to kill some time.....so aight we ditched our things in his car and then headed for the arab baths.....not so impressive.....they are only mimicing the arab baths and so that is where the name comes from and it is kinda a guessing game as to how they work......there was construction all over and it was quite small......intresting but eh.....the guide pamphlete was funniest using cartoon scetches to describe what was going on.....in spanish.....well both andy and myself thought it would take much longer and so had quite some time to kill....i had already wandere the streets quite a bit and and had a month in the town as he just rented a flat cause his job was there for a month....he was a piolet....but i guess it is a hard job to get cause the only job he can get right now is flying banners over barcelona.....it pays 20 euro an hr and he works 1 hr a day 4 days a week......that barley covers the 300 euro for the flat he rented......i guess he just needs to log as many hrs flying as he can to get a good job....he is at 900 now.....one hr at a time that takes a long time.....well we walked around and he kept asking what i wanted to do.....i dint have much of an answer for him....we talked a bit and his english was great as he flew in the US for a while.....but i think we were kinda different people....he was a pretty atypical guy and me maybe not so much.....i think he was waiting for me to bust out some crazy american idea of how to have fun.......but we wandered and then he drove me to the airport as he was flyign that afternoon....got me there a bit early but i had some food and did the arts and crafts deal for a while......then got to check into the flight and my pack was too heavy....1 kilo ove rthe limit but i was allowed to take something out rather then pay extra.....i shoulda asked how heavy it was but i wasnt thinking......then got on the plan and it was so clearly a cheap flight.......it was all kids....like all these kids prolly on their first vacation away from home without the parents to barcelona....so it was kinda roudy as well....but a quick hr and five minutes and we were in torino......got my pack and headed to information.......a map in hand and x marked the campgrounds....just had to get a bus tix......five bucks as it was a private company who offered it and the guy said i better hurry as it would be there in 5 minutes.....well as the canadiens had worned me eevrything is late in italy....this bus seemed no exception.....but it was all good and i got to the big train station in the center of town.....well now how to get to my campground.....the lady had shown me the buses to get on but none of the numbers matched the signs i was finding......i asked for help and they clearly told me where to go but i found no such bus stops.....i think due to space they were unable to add the whole bus station and so they just put placards up saying which bus line passes......but it is hard to tell the direction and then once i got away from the center cause my bus line was apparently not their they just stopped using the placards and your supposed to know where the bus stops......i got fed up....it didnt look that long a walk....i could manage....i was wasting so much time anyway trying to ask how to do this and getting nowhere......so i crossreferenced where i was cause the map luckily had a street guide and i was on my way.....it was about a 45 minute walk or so but much more worth it then the hassle.....besides i saved 90 cents....woohoo i am rich.....haha....well the campgrounds were just passed these really noisy dogs in the neighbors yard and run by a really old couple.....neither spoke english but i conveyed my need of a tent site.....all was well pitched the tent and hiked it back into town as i was kinda hungery and wanted to let everyone know i was ok......on the way in i had passed a internet cafe but it was not working so he said to come back......i tried to find that and failed miserably......ended up walking for some time.....i asked at this gym type place and the guy said i could use his really quick....hence the quick i am here safly......well then i hiked back and never did the dinner thing.....just kinda forgot and i wsnt really hungry.....went to bed and got up around 9 and headed tot he showers.....not so fine facilities.....and you have to buy tokens for the showers 10 liter for 80 cents......10 liters yeh i can do a shower in that......found out that is defidently minimal....i think the conversion makes it under 3 gallons.....taking a shower with 3 milk jugs full was fun......but you can get wet turn it off soap up and then rinse off and there is just enough time.....prolly didnt want to spend too much time there anyway cause it was kinda dirty.......well then i headed back into town.....i tried to find a bus back toward the center of town to expidite the day but had no bus schedual....i finally foudn the stop with some help and waited......an old couple came up and asked a question i had no clue what they wanted.....then i asked how much the bus was...they talked a lot between eachother and to me but i had no idea.....finally i figured out i wasnt allowed to pay on the bus......gotta buy tickets somewhere......i had not seen such locations......well then a lady came up and waited and the older couple asked her about it and she had and extra tix so i bought it from her......then as we get on the bus they made it their mission to get me to my station.....the guy in the front seat moved and made em sit there and they let the driver know where i needed to get off and he was to tell me.....they made a huge scene and it was really funny....face was definadently red.....but it was fun and quite nice of them.....i thanked them as they got off and got off at my proper stop....got my ticket for tomarrow and then found this place......now it is off for the above plans......til later ben
