For the weekend, we have rent a car with four people (Roman, Kristina, Christian and myself), to go to Lago Arenal. Arenal is a dam lake, and one of Costa Rica's most important energy sources. It is famous for windsurfing (and pretty much the only place in Costa Rica where windsurfing makes sense), as the winds over the lake are strong and steady. Next to the lake, there is the large and still active volcano Arenal, which gives the lake its name.
After a stop in Libaria on friday we arrive at Arenal Saturday noon. The colors are beautiful - very green forests and meadows and turquoise water in the lake. The winds are indeed strong and pull on our little Jimny jeep while passing the heights close to the lake. On the way to the lake we encounter various curiousities, for example a german bakery run by a guy called Thomas since many years (völliger Aussteiger und entsprechend verpeilt). Besides german bread they offer Bratwurst and Weizen, and we have a Bratwurst-Sandwich in Fünfkornbrot. I've never seen this in Germany, but it's still totally german.
On our way to La Fortuna we encounter funny curious animals, a bit similar to racoons (see photos for more).
