We're now in Vietnam and have spent the last week in Saigon and the Mekong Delta. The latter is an amazingly fertile area south of Saigon, criss-crossed with waterways and apparently produces 75% of the country's fruit and veg. As we upload this we are making the most of 'happy hour' with Angkor beers in a Phnom Penh bar! We are in Cambodia, which is a much poorer country than Malaysia, recovering from our 3-day full-on touring of some of the Angkor's temples outside Siem Reap. Two days ago we finally said farewell to Emma and Jay, with whom we've been travelling for about seven weeks (they went north, while we went south). We had lots of laughs and some excellent jungly adventures. We were also the honoured and only guests at their engagement party last Saturday! Tomorrow we leave Malaysian Borneo for Peninsular Malaysia where our first stop will be Penang. We've spent just shy of a month in Borneo having initially thought we'd only spend two weeks here. From Miri (our last blog) we followed the coastline down to Sibu via a couple of longish bus rides. Having moved from Sabah into neighbouring Sarawak (also part of Malaysian Borneo), we have realised that Sarawak has retained much more of its virgin jungle, rather than giving in to palm oil production.
