Hi everyone!
We have been in Kanchanaburi for 4 days now. We have been staying at a really lovely guest house called Pong Phen. It is right on the river Kwai and we have lovely views. We have spent most days relaxing by the pool and reading our books but we have also been to see the attractions around the area.
On Monday we went to the Memorial Cemetary and the Railway Museum. On the way back we got caught in a monsoon! All the Thai people had taken cover in their houses and shops and we were the only two people happy to walk in the rain! We did get laughed at quite a bit.
Today we took a day trip with one of the tour agencies. We went to a waterfall in the morning and then into a hot spring. The hottest one was 45degrees. Atleast there was a cold river to get in afterwards. We then had lunch at a local restaurant and fed some pineapple to some very lively fish!
We then went to the Hellfire Pass and Museum. This is where the POW's were used as slaves to blast through the mountain side and build the Thai Burma Railway. It was a very moving experience and being there was very strange. You could almost imagine exactly what it would have been like as it had been untouched since the war. There were markings all along the rocks where the men had hammered and blasted the mountains.
Then we took a ride along the Death Railway on a train. Considering the wooden bridge was built in 2 weeks by the POWs, most of us were a bit uneasy at first! But in the end it was fun and Chris found himself a spot by the door and had his whole body out the train nearly!
Our last stop was at the Bridge over the River Kwai and then we got back to the guest house for a well deserved dip in the pool and a shower! Tomorrow we are going back to Bangkok to find a hostel before our tour starts on Saturday.
We hope you are all well and not missing us too much. We are having an amazing time and hope you are enjoying the pictures
