Cant believe I wrote my blog for an hour this morning, and have lost it all. It was very informative, but cant write that much again.
We left our guest house in the morning of the 12th 15 of us on the bus arriving in TaKhao for about 1.00. We where taken straight to the wedding which was a bit of a shock as we had shorts etc on, because its a two day wedding the Marque was up and they were feeding the other guests. Bit embarrasing as they where all dressed up.
Eventually we got taken to our guest house to get ready for 4.30 when the wedding was about to start again. Tuktuk was picking us up with Matt `s parents, as they had to be there to recieve the guests.
At a Cambodian wedding the ceremony takes place on the first day, with the monks etc. Which we didnt go to. 2nd day has got formal things in the morning. Followed by the reception at 4.30.
This means that the bride, groom, parents, best men (3 of) & bridesmaids have to stand at the entrance for 3 hours until 7.30pm for all the guests to arrive. To greet with a bow, and hands together as in prayer. Apparently the higher you think of the person , the higher you do your pray action. Very long and ardious for them, best men were really drunk by the end, as 3 hours of drinking beer in that heat will take its toll on 3 young English men.
I thought they where quite funny as even if they had a cigarette in there hands when they saw someone coming thay just droped it , bowed and picked it back up. There was tables of ten people and you dont get food till your table is full. Then it comes about 7 courses of it. Very good.
This goes on untill the bride, groom and guests are ready to eat. Apparently 460 guests to be fed. Marque is up much like at home, the difference is the caterers at at the side cooking and washing up as they go, hard to explain. Plus the Marque gets put up where there is a space near the home, sometimes its even at the side of the road.
Computor has crashed again, luckily I had saved a bit, have you ever wanted to scream.
I think I was at the place to explain about the cutting of the cake, when bride & groom fed there parents and bow. Followed by the toast to each other. Then everyone celebrates with confetti and crazy foam, bit of a mess but fun.
Then the party began, unfortunately so did the rain, as the Marque isnt like ours it pours in, so we had to move chairs etc.
The part that amused me most ws the street urchins hiding amongst us all collecting the empty tins etc to make money. Could tell you more about that but after writing twice have had enough.
It was a good night, music was good, few of the kids from orphanage done a dance. Plus they all like to get on stage and sing, hence why they like karaoke.
We took bottle of vodka, and there was beer & soft drinks flowing. Plus for those that know me realise how excited I was to find ice flowing, crazy when you think the Uk run out of ice on a busy night. There we were in the middle of now where, with never ending ice supply. bliss.
It finished at about midnight, with the Cambodian men & the westerners all pretty merry, if you know what I mean !!!!
I decided to go home as tuktuk came and I didnt want to risk not being able to get back. I was hot sticky with very muddy feet after the rainfall. So a shower with my shoes on seemed sensible at the time, dont use your imagination please. I was full of vodka & ice with a pot noodle sitting on the bedside awaiting me. yeah okay most people have a young sexy man, guess Ive had my day where thats concerned. But wont give up totally.
Jess my room mate & Rhian went on hoping to find better things, but with no luck so they were not far behind. Dissapointed at the time, but Im sure this morning it was a blessing as everyone was pretty hung over.
Found a restaurant, for breakfast so we all had a chicken burger unfortunately they couldnt do the chips, we didnt understand why. We got the taxi on the way home to stop at roadside bakery. You know how much you eat with a hangover. Jess managed to down a cake, then spotted a pizza followed by a huge loaf we bought for when we got back. Definetly a carbs day.
Well we are back to what we call home, not a lot here as some of our crowd have moved on. Matt, Sophie and Abby carrying on with there travels, Jackie is in the city about to start at a hospital tommorow.
The two oldies, hark at me !!! are back from the city Monday,(today) as is Debera and her nephew. Plus Jill & Fay. But there is also another new crowd here.
It is Monday morning here now, I had a bad day with electrics & computors yesterday. I kept losing blog, each itouch or computor just didnt want me to do it. To the point when I had a massive shock trying to plug one of them in. At that point I gave up, as I was very shaken and my hand hurt like hell, as the cable had been around it. Yes Mark you would have enjoyed that my hair possibly stuck up on end even more affro !!!!! Unfortunately nobody got a picture..
Luckily Becky one of the girls here has lent me her computor & seem to have managed to save most of it yesterday, so that was a relief. I have woke up this morning with two birds in my bathroom, s***ting everwhere. Scared obviously as they have come through the vent, hopefully that is the way they will get out time I get back tonight.
Im going to publish & hope it doesnt crash before I do, chat with you later in the week.
Love me, now Im charged Im energised, get the pun !!!!! xx
