(L) Another beautiful breakfast spread served by Marios and we were on our way to Kastraki by 9.15, quite an easy run again only taking just over 2 hours, starting with a lot of fog but the rest with great roads, lots of tunnels a toll or two and getting stuck behind a truck for nearly 20 kms down windy roads with crazy Greek drivers overtaking not only us but the truck around blind corners!! I waited patiently for a safest possible place to pass so maybe I'm not such a Greek driver after all! When we arrived in Kastraki Deb was pointing out all the places she remembered from her visit 12 years ago but she was astounded at how much it had grown, no doubt she will tell about that in her story. We looked at a few places, one of the places we thought looked nice and wanted to look at had a sign on the door "Dear Guests I am at the Taverna 40 metres down the road".. how funny is that!!! We then decided to go have some lunch while we decided which we preferred, lunch was at a cafe right on the town square where a very Greek mumma with little english served us.... we managed between us with our broken greek to order and I didn't mention it to the others cos I didn't want to put them off their lunch but as she delivered our meals I noticed her fingernails were flithy... yuk.. no wonder GJ ended up feeling ill later that day and couldn't force herself out of the room all night. We chose to stay at the Hotel Kastraki which is a beautiful looking place with, the gradually defrosting, Froso, our lovely very Greek lady host. Two rooms for EU 70.. what a bargain... internet in the rooms this time, yay we all breathed a sigh of relief and I even got my own room for these two nights with a balcony and all! As I said Gwendols was confined to quarters so after the obligatory time out in our rooms getting organised, blogging etc Deb and I went for a walk around Kastraki ending up at a little cafe that Deb said was the internet cafe she and Rob had used for the 5 days they spent there all those years ago... we did however only have a coffee and baklava then headed back to see how GJ was fairing before heading to dinner an hour or so later at the Taverna across the road from the Hotel. Dinner was amazing... easily one of, if not the best, we've had in Greece. Baked Fetta, Agioritiki ( an eggplant, garlic and pepper dip ), a bowl of the plumpest most divine black olives either of us has ever had to pleasure to partake of, baked peppers served with bread, good quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar ... oh and red wine of course... OMG I'm drooling just thinking about it!! Total bill was EU 25 which included tip. Tomorrow we get a little bit closer to heaven.....
