Just a brief update as im gonna update this from my handwritten journal soon. In Cairns now.. if you like straight roads in block like the USA this is the place to be. Christ ive spent 4 days here and i still dont have a clue where i am!! im only able to get to my hostel by pub locations!! Thank god for PJ O'Briens and the Woolshed!! Well after a glorios long 12 bus journey where our driver was the most miserable git ive heard since Basil Fawlty!! "No food or drink on the bus i repeat no food or drink on the bus .. if you disobey this i WILL stop the bus and you WILL be removed". This was after i smuggled a sarnie and a bag of crisps onto the bus!! im a right chancer aren't I!! That was the tip of the iceburg.. he didnt stop droning on about what time you had to do this or do that.. and to cap it all he said hed try and show us a casowary (endangered big Emu like thing they have in north Queensland), it wasnt a tour bus so i thought fair enough but when he did see it it was in the road in front of him and he jacked on the brakes big stlye forcing us all to munch on the seats in front! he would rather of put 50 people through a window than let some museum have a stuffed casowary as a present. What a fool!!
So in Cairns i am! Its hot and wet.. but enough about me!! Its humid and a bit iffy weather wise, but its the activity capital of Oz so i made the most of it!! I am sh!t scared of heights.. so i thought id do a skydive and a bungee jump!! yeah baby!!
On my second day in Cairns was D-Day. Luckily it was a bright sunny day and i had got rid of my hangover but still felt quite c*** sure about it!! after getting kitted up it was short drive to the airfield and up rolled this plane that was so small it looked like a remote controlled plane!! and 8 of us were getting in!! Great!! They know what they are doing i thought.. rememebering the brief and training that lasted 2 minutes earlier!!!! Well Its quite nice going up in this plane, just like any plane, fantastic views (could see the barrier reef). When we reached 14000 feet it was like the paras about to drop out!! you didnt have time to sh!t yourself. I was last out after 2 japs (surprise) and when they went it all became real.. poo poo time!! thet jumped and shot off to the left at break net speed. 5 seconds later i was out! Fu...................k! What a feeling though!! 5 second of uncontrolled tumpling then into the freefall. 60 deconds of adreneline! Mental! Tibi had a camaera n his hand so i had to decide wheteher to watch the land come closer below or smile for the camera!! i couldnt tell you what i did!! Then the chute opened and we cruised in!! what a feeling.. anyone thinking about it.. do it man!!
The next day was worse though. I attempted a bungee jump.. you may think a skydive is scarier but you dont get much perspective of hieght and speed doing the dive.. this 50m tower you certainly did!!! It took me 2 and a half hours to climb the friggin dteps to the top.. i was that scared!! one guy did 4 jumps by the time i did mine!! Eventually i got to the top (though it took 10 minutes to walk as i stopped so many times) The Aussie guy took my ticket and i made sure i was right in the middle of the platform safe! he looked at my ticket and i was the second person into the site that day and sais to me f#%k me mate, number 2! You've been torturing yourself all day?" ! didnt have an answer!! After getting all strapped etc i was put to the edge of the board and had a peek down and would you beleive it there were dozens of people watching. (only about 5 when i walked up!).. to be fair once i was on the edge i just went for it and it was a great buzz!! i got off and received cheers and claps from a bus load of japenese tourists who turned up!! an audience ahh!! i reckon i didnt stop shaking for an hour after!
Today ive been out to the barrier reef to do a dive and some snorkling. Found Nemo so they can change the title of the film now! it is a great thing snorkling the reef, shame it was raining and cloudy all day so i didnt get the colour you get on sunny days but i saw so many species of fish and coral it was great! managed to break a bit of it by accident but dont tell anyone eh?!
Well im back off to Sydney tomorrow so ill try and update this a bit better now.. remember Well Done is better than Well Said!! chow! x
