Where in the World is Dan O?
I traveled to Boston on August 1st till August 4th on an all expensed paid trip by Liberty Mutual. In Boston I was able to see the tourist sights along with meet important people in Liberty Mutual.
Wed- Started off ok but consisted of an 8 hour plane trip. Once in Boston, I was hassled by the taxi driver and my trip cost me 40 and took more than an hour to arrive at my hotel. Other interns ride amounted to 20 and came to about 40 minutes. Oh well, I get the money back. The interns ate at an Italian restaurant named Vinnie T's. Not bat at all. Then I retired because Jet Lag was catching up.
Thurs. - Up at 6 am to be at Liberty at 715. A full day from 7:30 till 6:00 pm. Meet some big people at Liberty including Ted Kelly. Later that day, we listened to a variety of speakers, who shed a lot of light our options that are available in Liberty Mutual, if we decide to work for them. About 6pm our meetings ended and we headed for our tour of Boston. Now that was very cool. We rode in an orange DUCK (military amphibious vehicle) and viewed the historic sites in Boston. Our captain made our ride the most enjoyable. I think he is a little too much of a Boston/Red Sox fan. Let me explain - 1) he was married (surprise mind you) in the harbor on a Duck 2) Had his reception in Fenway Park and 3) Almost all of his wedding pictures contained the world series trophy. Later that night I explored the night life and was able to enjoy Sam Adams Summer Ale. Not bad at all. I also tried their "micro brews" and they do not compare at all to what we have in Oregon. Props to Oregon.
Fri. - Friday wake up call came really early. I was a bit groggy but made it to all my meetings. Friday we heard the key information containing employment, compensation, and benefits. Ended our meetings at 12 and set out to the airport at one. While in Boston I walked around a 6 block radius and STILL did not find a souvenirs shop. Later I ran into some annoying problems at the airport and with security. Finally rode a 9 hour plane trip back to Portland. It was a very long day due to the fact that I had a hard time sleeping on the plane. The night ended with my roommate Juan and me trying to find each other. A number of circumstances made it take an hour. My phone battery was dead, he misheard my instructions and he had to continue driving in circles because the security guards wouldn't let him wait next to the baggage claim doors.
All in all- A long, on the go, great trip to Boston. Thank you Liberty Mutual
