The following day, we got up and went to the city centre again in order to get some information about the hikes. We picked a hike to Mount Lomoron, which took us about 5 hours in total. The views were spectacular as you can see in the picture. We had a great overview of the lakes and the surrounding mountains. We got to know a cool american from Colorado and had a talk about politics, the upcoming elections and the economy in general. Very interesting.
In the evening we went for a cold swim in the freezing lake and then enjoyed another great burger at Ferg Burger. Really fantastic. With eggs, double meat, bacon and all other kinds of things. Delicious. In the evening we went to a few pubs and then drove into the direction of Dunedin where we arrived the following day. Dunedin is the city with the steepest street in the world (even our van made it), a nice train station but not much more. We went to a peninsula being close to Dunedin where we could view penguins and sea lions at the beach. In the evening we watched the 3rd part of the Lord of the rings and were even more aware of the picturesque landscape.
On Saturday, we went to the moeraki boulders, basically being football-like (maybe bigger) rocks at the beach. The weather was not too good though so we didnt stay long. In the afternoon we worked on our video and just hung out. In the evening we drove in the direction of lake tekapo. THis drive was marvelous, especially the scenic lakes and the sunset. We slept on another rest area.
We got up early on Sunday and went to Lake Tekapo, a glacier lake in the mountains, where we hiked up to Mount John and got rewarded by beautiful views of the Southern Alps, all being covered in snow. In the afternoon we went to Christchurch for a rugby game which took place in the centre of the city. It was so funny to see the cursing supporters and the guys beating eachother up on the field.
