Since deciding to visit Spain discussion has been had about whether to visit Morocco or not. We have been so undecided that we didn't even have Morocco printed on our T-Shirts. It was now decision time!
Chris had no difficulty deciding - he was taking his bike to North Africa whether we went or not.
We caught the 10am ferry to Tangier from Tarifa which is about 25km from our hotel at Algeciras. It takes one hour to cross the Straits of Gibraltar and it was a little after 9am when we landed in Morocco (you figure it out). We chatted to a couple of Aussie ladies who were from Ingham for most of the trip over. They were going on a guided tour complete with lunch and shopping stops.
Chris exited the ferry after the foot passengers and we watched as he rode off to explore Morocco for a few hours instead of exploring Tangier (real reason he wanted to take the bike - so he could get another bike sticker!).
After customs clearance we took a taxi for 5 euro to the Medina in the Old City. The taxi driver pointed out places of interest on the way - money well spent as The Medina (the Old City) was at the top of the hill. We then hoofed it for the next 5 or so hours before deciding we had enough of Tangier. Why?
The city is filthy, the footpaths and side walks are broken and cracked and in some cases non existent. Stray cats and dogs and geese and ducks wander the streets scratching out a living with the accompanied animal excrement everywhere. Alleyways and side streets abound with shifty looking characters who follow you everywhere with their eyes looking for ways to part you from your money. Street crossings are a practice in 100 metre sprinting as you endeavour to get to the other side before some errant speeding car gets you. Vapours from the underground sewer system invade your nostrils and make your eyes water enough to even turn you off your McDonalds. I could go on but you get the drift.
Are we glad to have visited Tangier? Absolutely. Will we be back? Definitely not. Should'a done the bike sticker tour instead.
We returned to our hotel in Algeciras for dinner and to rest our weary feet before starting our treck north tomorrow.

Christopher Well having done the sticker tour i only had fresh air to smell and good roads and if they were around the shifty were in cars. I and the Triumph now are pleased to have our Morocco sticker (thanks to Kerrie)
Craig and Marg Sounds similar to a couple of SEQ neighborhoods I've worked in lol. At least you can put a pin on the map saying been there, done that and made it out with our pants still on
Merrilyn Don't think I will go there.
