We arrived at our hotel in El Calafate around 7:15pm. After a briefing from Nati, we and the boys went in search of steak... not before Craig got on wifi and discovered he had been wrong all along about the colour of emus - shameful from and Aussie! We went to a meat restaurant and ordered 4 x bife de chorizo and 4 x papas fritas, plus a bottle of red wine. Since it was a Saturday we then went to a bar and had a number of cocktails. The best discovery of the night was when we found out that Craig had responded to the bidet in his room the same way as Crocodile Dundee himself!
Day 146 - Well we got home at 2pm and then the boys unhelpfully woke us up with only half an hour before we were leaving to go to the Perito Moreno Glacier. Alex and Craig made everyone's sandwiches during breakfast, and at 9am we departed. We had a local guide for this excursion too, and she gave us a great deal of interesting information on the drive to the park... unfortunately for her, we were all too tired to really pay attention. At the park she showed us a map of the trails and left us to wander about ourselves. By the end we weren't sure how to tip a guide who came along to have lunch.
The Perito Moreno glacier was amazing. We walked the full extent of the balconies for various views of the same mass of ice - if there's one thing Argentina does well it's viewpoints. Alex and I sat on one balcony and ate our lunch while watching huge pieces of ice fall off the front of the glacier.
At 2:30pm we headed back to El Calafate - each of us asleep in another awkward position. We spent the rest of the afternoon taking it easy and sorting stuff out after a week of being on the go. At 8pm the four of us went for dinner. The boys said we could choose where to go, and then decided on a restaurant. It was a bit of a shame then, when they didn't enjoy the food. I also redeemed my beer that I had won for the ostrich vs emu debate. The others all went and bought ice cream from the heladeria while I made a new dogfriend.
Day 147 - Our 21st and final seminniversary! And today we complete our South American loop by returning to Buenos Aires!
Alex made me a cup of tea in bed and then we both downloaded the book called The Game and sat in bed both giggling whenever we came to a passage that warranted it.
After checking out we went to the main street to post postcards and sit in a cafe and catch up on our accommodation ratings. At midday we took a transfer to the brand new airport just outside El Calafate.
