Sooo we missed our train to Roussines, mum blamed me of course :P had nothing to do with what I was doing... breaky took alot of time & we didn't realise how long it would take to get to the station, the french bus driver also wouldnt stop cos we got on the wrong bus! But the taxi driver was nice which is surprisng for France, he drove in the bus lane and swerved traffic.
It was a sleepy 3 hr train ride- so wierd I fall asleep with a blink on an eye on a train or car but plane or BED not so well. My Auntie & Uncle have a cottage in Roussines which was a barn and has been completely transformed and now unrecognisable, its beautiful! No phone/internet - but they have water/electricity, thank god. There are farmers fields all around wheat, black/white milking cows, light brown meat cows and a lake district. It's like being away from civilisation, no shops and you would be lucky to see another car. This is where my cousins wedding was supposed to be. We arrive at Limoges station which was more like a church, white stone building with a high ceiling and statues, Rousiness was about 1 hr drive and is inbetween Limoges and Angouleme. The weather was everywhere, rain, then cloudy periods then sunny.
Our first place we visited was Mountbrom' we saw the french communal watermill and greenage. Lunch was at the golf course another place planned for 'the wedding'. 3 course meal YUM mussel salad, chicken veg/pasta and chocolate eclares - how can one person seriously eat so much? lucky we got in a walk in the afteroon around the lake district.
We drove a little further around the windey roads and came to Chateau La Rochefouclauld - I've seen it before but never gone inside so Mum and I had a look around - lots of different rooms which french tapestries, painting, chandeliers and one wooden floor creaked so much I thought I was going to fall through & a chapel - dress up room too & because we're big kids we played dress ups :)
Second day we went to Branton a cute place sorrounded by a lake - the island was nice and green but rained @ first. Shops had been built into the caves, which was amazing! Chapel included. we walked around the lake had hot chocolate' and lunch :) and then it finally fined up.
There are so many little villages and places too see, the French were a little nicer and things weren't as hectic as in Paris. Nice and relaxing - fingers crossed the 3rd time I visit the weather is hothothot.
