I am in love…………..with the Galapagos!!!! It is such an amazing place! You can get so close to the animals and some of them are pretty strange - the iguanas in particular - they look like something out of a sci-fi movie!
I spent the first week on a boat cruise which was brilliant! We were able to visit lots of the islands and our guide was really knowledgeable. We were also able to go snorkeling every day which I loved! Under water is just as impressive as above the water!!
It was interesting getting used to sleeping on a boat - especially since most of the traveling was done during the night and we had some pretty rough crossings between islands! The buffet food was a bad idea for me - there wasn't a time when I didn't go back for seconds or thirds!!!
After the boat tour I spent most of my time on Santa Cruz. Well to be precise I spent most of my time in the water! I decided to go diving (it had been 4 years since I last dived!) and I realized how much I loved it so ended up spending the next 5 days diving. The days I wasn't diving I was snorkeling! You would not believe the amount of different fish I have seen! The main highlights have to be the hammerhead sharks though! I was lucky enough to see a couple of schools go past and in one school there were over 30 sharks!!!! The white tipped reef sharks were pretty cool too - they came closer so you could get a better look at them. Seeing turtles, sea lions and penguins under water was pretty fantastic too!!! They are so graceful and pretty speedy too!
In the end I changed my flight back to Quito twice so I could spend more time on the islands! Something was trying to stop me from leaving though because when I went to the airport they told me they had changed the time of my flight and I had missed it! Eventually they sorted me out with a new flight which changed at Quayquil however, the plane had mechanical difficulties and we were delayed by a few hours! It was pretty mad as well because there were only 5 passengers on a 132 seater plane!!!!
Anyway, I'm now back in Quito and wishing I was still on the islands!!!!
