The Gold Coast
Sunday 14th November - Tuesday 16th November 2010
Hi everyone!
We got from Cleveland to Burleigh safely! Burleigh is real surf town, similar to Noosa on the Sunny Coast. We went out for a wander after finding our pitch and were immediately taken back by the view of Surfers Paradise. Its 10km away but you can see every building, it looks like an alien city has landed on the beach! The next day we found a book swap shop and chilled out on the beach at Burleigh. We met Bruce in the evening for dinner and drinks at "Point Break" which is a very chic bar/restaurant. He turned up with the dirtiest "Movember" I have ever seen! We ate at the surf club though as it was cheaper! But Bruce treated us to an amazing desert! The view from the bar is amazing, you almost feel like you are floating as it overhangs the ocean and surfers come flying along right past the balcony! It is a very pretty little surf town but we couldn't afford to eat and drink out here for long!
On Tuesday we drove to Surfers to see Macca who has a job there. Surfers is much bigger than I imagined. It's like a large city with high rises everywhere. But it's actually quite good for shopping and there are some nice areas. We had breakfast on 'Ocean drive" and it actually does remind me of Miami! The beach is very windy and there are lots of people kite surfing, surfing, body boarding, I'm sure no one works out here! From the beach you can see Burleigh and Broadbeach in between. In between every headland there is a bay with bright white high rise buildings, the signature of a typical surf town. You can even see Coolangatta which is on the largest Headland. Its miles away but due to the high rises against the flatness of the coast, it looks so much closer. All of these places on the Gold Coast are how you imagine Australia to be.
We dropped Macca off at work in his little restaurant in Broadbeach. Apparently Broadbeach and Burleigh are comparable to "Osbourne Road" and Surfers is the "big market", and it is very true! He had to buy us a drink though as we are completely out of money! Ah! We have booked Fiji and barely have enough to get to Sydney so we may have to get there a week early.
We drove from Burleigh yesterday back to our hostel in Brisbane. We took Jucy Sue back today which was very sad! Now we have to get to our airport hotel somehow with all of our bags as we fly to Fiji early tomorrow morning!
Hope everything is ok back at home. We are still having fun and looking forward to Fiji. We won't have a phone in Fiji and have no idea how connected to the rest of the world it is in terms of internet but we will be in touch as soon as we get back I promise!
Lots of Love,
Elle and Joe x x x
