Arrived Cooktown... Good to cross another item off the 'must see' list (after the disappointing lack of cassowary around the Cairns region - yes they're endangered, but must they hide so well from the Victorian tourists?) as a cane toad was almost stepped on near the amenities at the camping ground (unfortunately didn't have a golf club handy, because it was confirmed they do sit up nicely in a golf-ball-on-tee-like pose when startled).

Arrived Trinity Beach...

Arrived Townsville. Watched the Blues finish off the Lions, then drove the narrow road up Castle Hill (although it seems to be a very popular walk/run option, based on pedestrian numbers and the amount of lycra) - great views of the area and coastline.

Drizzly day improved by discovery of bananas at CRAZY (but not quite pre-cyclone) prices of $7.99/kilo at local markets.

Tom swimming by himself for the first time - well, with some assistance from his Thomas the Tank Engine vest. A few Queenslanders saw us in the pool and must have assumed it was warmer, not realising we were crazy Victorians (boy were they surprised when they hopped in!). Lucky start to the day with Finn deposited on by a (seemingly big) bird. Day book-ended with luck when a gecko dropped one in our sausages from the roof of the camp kitchen.
