Arrived Cloncurry, after a detour south from Normanton rather than west due to apparent road problems further along the Savannah Way (unfortunate, as it would have been good to add a Hell's Gate Roadhouse stubby holder to the collection). Hangar pictured still has 'QUEENSLAND AND NORTHERN TERRITORY AERIAL SERVICE' sign - nearby plaque explains 1st QANTAS commercial flight was Charleville to Cloncurry, 2/3 November 1922.

Arrived Karumba - best part of the journey was spotting many brolgas on the last leg from Normanton (tried to stop and photograph, but a bit tricky with, strangely, none of the brolgas hanging around areas with sufficient space next to the road to pull over - too worried about road trains to stop on the road). Apparently one of the best places around to watch the sunset, as the photo taken over a beer at the Karumba Point Sunset Tavern hopefully illustrates.

Arrived Georgetown (looks pretty bare on Google maps). Great scenery on interesting drive inland, despite the occasionally very narrow roads and cattle blockades. Pub looks as if it's being fixed up after extensive damage, so hopefully kitchen and kegs are still OK...

Arrived Elim Beach, after somewhat tricky driving for the last 10km or so along sandy/rutted/corrugated/narrow track (apparently hammered a bit more than usual with a late wet season burst, and yet to be re-graded), but handled well by the Santa Fe & well worth the trip - camped right on the beach, with some huge green tree frogs hanging about on the walls in the amenities. No crocs or snakes spotted yet, but hopefully the local dog will give us a heads-up.
