Arrived Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk National Park). Thousands of flying foxes around, and all took off around 7pm - hoping they don't return at a ridiculous hour and populate the tree over our tent (already copped a couple of bird-related 'souvenirs' in Mataranka). Looking forward to a dawn breakfast cruise on Monday.

Arrived Mataranka for a 2 or 3 night stay at the camping grounds near the local thermal pool - didn't seem as hot as expected at 34 degrees, but very popular. Camp area also has many small kangaroos and a few peacocks to amuse the kids. Photo is of replica homestead used for the movie adaptation of 'We of the Never Never'.

Arrived Daly Waters to check out & stay at historic pub and surrounds. Might add one more to stubby holder collection...

Finally into NT, after a long haul today of over 650km to Tennant Creek (the 130km/h speed limits in NT helped reduce travel time, but we hopefully won't be doing too many stretches like that). At one point had to get off the highway completely as 3 huge trucks carrying what seemed to be scoops for massive mining vehicles came the other way, taking up more than the entire road. Saw first Darwin stubbies at a stop along the way, but hoping they'll get cheaper than...

Arrived Mount Isa, which should be our last Queensland stop. Amazing playground, just missing some toys for the big (30+) kids...
