The train form Kalambaka to Thessaloniki left at 7.20am and arrived in the main station at around 11am. We explored the harbour and surrounding areas which are expensive and protentious(sp) but then found a nice little market which was much more to our liking, we walked around for a while in the hustle-and-bustle and finely baught a small oil burning candle thing which we had seen used in the monosties.
We left the market and dropped into a supermarket to buy some sweet and sour sauce to go with that nights rice, no meat, but the small pieces of carrot and other veg were nearly as good.
After cooking and eating dinner in the station's car park, we got on a night train, destination Istanbul. At around 3am we were rudely awoken by the word Passport! Passport! Passort! and a 15euro fee for a Turkish visa. 'Welcome to Turkey' i thought. and went back to sleep.
The train arrived at around 10am in Istanbul where it was a short tram ride to Cordial House, our home for the next 4 days.
