We managed to completely miss this place off the blog, I guess better late than never!
We had decided to brake up our journey from beijing to shanghai in order to combat the holiest of chinas five holy mountains. We were climbing in the footsteps of some of the biggest players in chinese history: confucious, big man mao and jackie chan. We stayed for one night in the small town at the foot of the mountain and then headed out mid morning. The mountain is no test of climbing skills or navigation as the accent consists of over 6393 steps to the top(1545m)
*this would have been the best place for using a slingky, ace venturer style
It was alot harder going than we had imagined with flights of steps going up into the hundreds before reaching a level piece of path. The mountain is very much a chinese tourist atraction and we were pleased if not surprised at coming across only several westerners throughout the day. At one point we came across around sixteen men carrying a massive box atached to bamboo up the mountain, this was intense to say the least and we later found out it was for the weather station on the summit. The surrounding forest covered lanscape broken only by small rivers and waterfalls was amazing and the view from the top was worth the climb.
We returned to the hostel for anther night and then took the train the 12 hours to shanghai
photos will be updated if we ever find fast internet
