So, we arrived in Luang Prabang after a difficult boat trip! Ended up finding a really nice guesthouse with the guys we met on the boat.. Luang Prabang was a wierd place. I don't know what we were expecting, but it was like going to the south of France, lots of big mansions and baguettes galore! We went for dinner and saw the biggest spider ever, it was well scary, but it kept well away, so we survived. There is an 11.30 curfew in LP, but all the locals go to this bowling place, where we also ended up going. Very bizzare place, a bowling alley with lots of lady boys, westeners and drugs. We weren't too impressed. The next day we rented bikes, which was a bad idea. My bike had no brakes and Ed steering was a bit dodgy. Nonetheless, we decided to bike around for a bit, and everything was going just fine until these two Lao guys on mopeds pulled up next to me, grabbed my bag from the basket and tried to get away. Luckily, we had been warned about this, and had chained my bag to the basket. But it was pretty scary, we nearly lost all our money and cameras..and I nearly fell off the bike. After a rather traumatic morning, we negotiated what we thought was a pretty good deal with a tuk-tuk driver to take us to a famous waterfall (where our new friends had gone for the day).. so we got there, and it was rubbish. Because he had taken us to the wrong one. Idiot. After an hour or so looking around the man-made "waterfall", we got taken back to LP, and we were both annoyed at having had such a lousy day. So booked ourselves on the morning bus to Vang Vieng. Ended up staying with the same bunch of people in a guesthouse half the price compared to LP, we liked it here! More soon!!
