Kolins Travels
In order to catch my flight I had to get up at 4am, after drinking 3 bottles of vino with my fellow homestay Spanish students this wasnt as hard as I had expected. Once on the plane ,which left at 07.45, I woke up with a start to a fantastic view of The Andes from my window seat. I had passed out - I don`t remember the plane taking off! So it appears Im totally used to this being a jetsetter! There is more English spoken in Argentina than Chile and Buenos Aires is a crazy city, the people eat at 11 to 12pm here and the night life goes on all night! It was hardly uncommon for the return to the hostel to 8am after a hard nights work!. On my first day I met up with Dan and Stef (who I meet in New Zealand) and walked through The San Telmo Barrio (district) markets to see people dancing tango in the streets, singing and playing guitars..it was such a beautiful vibe and I was feeling so much love from Buenos Aires. Its such an European vibe city, eating is an event with muchas vino and the cow providing an array of steaks..brilliant! Steak por favour ..and er steak por favour!! Christ I couldn`t be a vegetarian!. Starting eating my steak alot rarer too. Originally I stayed at a hostel in the cities Microcentre, not a bad place with a basic breakfast. I moved two days later because of the traffic passing my dorm balcony window..it appears that the spill of traffic from "de 9 Julio avenue" headed straight past my accomodation. This avenue is apparently the largest avenue in the world! I went to "play with the traffic" and counted 18 lanes...its just unbelievable ..the crossings and the quality of driving! Speaking of driving, I watched a number of talented dancers doing the Tango in a Plaza and I decided to take a lesson. A rather attractive Argentinian female informed me I need to `drive the woman around the dance floor` ..just like a car.. as the male leads..so I asked if the male can `honk the females horn`..apparently this is not the point! Anyway I really enjoyed it!
Buenos Aires actually translates to Good Air but after 7 days in this city I can tell you there is nothing good about the air here from the pollution. So, I'm off to breathe some better air!
