Iskanderkul Lake in the Fann Mountains can only be described as breathtaking. The President has his holiday dacha here and it's easy to understand why. And whilst the road in is rough, the last 25kms takes about an hour, it's well and truly worth the drive. The mountain scenery is stunning. We're staying in "cottages". Think a row of 1960 motel rooms built from concrete. But they're comfortable and about 10 steps from the lake shore. About an hours walk from the cottages is a waterfall known as Tajikistan Niagra. Having seen the real Niagra it's a bit of a stretch but still impressive in its own right. Including the steel bar platform that extends out from the cliff face and allows you to look directly into the waterfall underneath. Dinner overlooking the lake and the snow capped mountains beyond was certainly a great way to end the day. The following morning we were treated to one of the best "reflection" displays i have ever seen. The mountains surrounding the lake were reflected in water that provided the perfect natural mirror. It was hard to drag ourselves away but more of Tajikistan was calling.
