The highlight for today was to be a ride on the Flamsbana, the steepest train ride in the world. Starting in Flam, over a distance of 20km, the track rises 864 metres, sometimes at a gradient of 1 : 18, to reach the station at Myrdal. More rain as we headed off this morning. Today was basically a day of driving, however with a slight detour we would be able to see the best preserved stave church in Norway. Once again our good fortune held out as the rain stopped almost immediately we arrived. The church dates back to 1200 and is in amazing condition. A large proportion of Norway is comprised of water and mountains. Neither of which are conducive to road transport. So to deal with these challenges the Norwegians have become great tunnel builders and ferry operators. If a mountain is in the way the simply tunnel through it.
