The Imperial Castle dates from the 14th century and is an impressive structure overlooking the old town and now the city of Nuremburg. It is built on a sandstone outcrop which provides views over the city giving it strategic importance in the medieval times when it was built. It has been the home to many rulers and was once the central location of the empire.
