The Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde (Our Lady of the Guard) overlooks the port of Marseille from high on the hill beside the city and is an imposing building which was built on the site of one of the old forts of the city port. It dates from around the mid 1800s and is a very pretty building and can be seen from throughout the city area.
