Edinburgh - Chester, England - Wrexham, Wales
Today we travelled South through the history-steeped Lowland Hills we visited Gretna Green, where the blacksmith used to wed runaway couples. We drove through beautiful scenery in the Lake District, considered to be the finest of England's national parks. We also visited Wordsworth's Grasmere, then followed the shores of Lake Windermere. In Chester, the historic county town on the River Dee, our guide took us on a walking tour around this walled city taking in the Roman remains, black and white half-timbered buildings, the two-tiered shopping arcades called the "Rows" and the Eastgate Clock built in 1897 is a turret clock built above the Eastgate of the ancient walls of Chester to celebrate Queen Victorias' diamond jubilee. We also visited Chester Cathedral which was built in AD907. We stayed at the Ramada Plaza Wrexham..
