Saturday afternoon was a nice chilled out afternoon. The school boys took some of our students beyond the kitchen to a patch of scrubland on the edge of the paddy field to play cricket. There was something hugely iconic about this scene with the teachers, the boys, some of the builders who are working on the next stage of th school and obviously our students - it reminded me no end of the scene from ‘The best exotic marigold hotel’. As I am not into cricket, despite my training incumbents best efforts to teach me otherwise, I took the opportunity to sketch a watercolour of the scene. In the distance of the picture you can see one single palm tree, this tree represents the furthest point of the land that Anup would like to own in order to complete his vision of an entirely self-sustaining community around the Music school which will include a church,a concert hall, a junior school, old people’s home and guest accommodation. After cricket we spent the evening chilling out, chatting and playing with the children. Sairul found a pack of playing cards and the students taught him and Jon to play Irish Snap. It is great to see two young men, who carry such responsibility on their shoulders in running the school as one who is the accountant and 19 years old and the other the administrator who is 24ish, letting their hair down and being just enjoying hanging out with our students.
