ElloraCaves - Feb 29th, 2008
The Ellora caves in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra are one of the World Heritage Sites in India. Built as far back as the 6th century, A.D., the Ellora Caves are one of the wonders of the time, made up of a spectacular set of buildings of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain caves housing temples, shrines and galleries carved into 2 KM of a basalt escarpment. The Kailash temple proved to be the gem of the site - a massive monolith bearing the resemblance of a free standing structure. Built over 100 years, it exemplified the skilled craftsmanship, engineering and pure art work of the Ellora builders, sculptors and painters.
