Hello everyone,
This is Lisa signing in to do a blog entry.
We are having a fantastic time in Darwin and surrounds, and cramming as much as we can into our nine day stay with Mum and Dad. We've probably worn them out and they will be glad to see the last of us, haha.
Yesterday was spent doing all the local museums, starting with the Darwin Museum. This was very interesting and it showcased things like 'sweetheart' the massive croc, aborigional art, famous paintings, a cyclone Tracey exhibition. refugee boats etc. Free entry was an added bonus.
We then moved on to the Fannie Bay Gaol. This historic Gaol was operational from 1883-1979 and was partially destroyed by cyclone Tracey. It was repaired and re-opened but it's long term viabilty had come to an end. The gaol itself was very basic and apart from the maximum security wing, most of the cells looked more like dog pens with roofs...I'm assuming this would allow some airflow with the extreme heat, but they were pretty horrible. The infirmary was also pretty creepy.
A visit to the military museum was next on the cards. We found this very interesting, and we all learnt a thing or 2 about the WW11.
On the way home we went to the B52 museum which was not only the home of one of the huge B52 Bomber Aeroplanes but also a number of rare and interesting aircraft, engines, wrecks etc.
So this was a full day spent doing all the museums and to top it off a visit to the Mindil market again for some yummy food and entertainment.
The next day (Monday) we caught the bus into the city and made our way to the Crocosaurus Cove. There was plenty to see and do here, we saw them feed the big crocs, fish, etc and held a baby croc and even went fishing for crocs. Although been a public holiday it was pretty busy and some of the demonstrations were very crowded and hard to see. They have a glass cage which is called the cage of death and for about $150 you can hop inside it and be lowered into each croc pool. It was a complete waste of money though as none of the crocs were the slightest bit interested!
Next stop was the aqua duck. Corey was pretty excited about going on this and it was actually pretty cool. It started from the city centre and headed to Fannie Bay boatramp where we launched into the ocean. Once we were cruising along in the sea the driver let Corey have go at steering which he was pretty stoked about. The commentary around the town was very interesting.
That's about it for now
Cheers
Lisa

Crisciely Thanks so much, Tim. This is the first time I've ever been confirmed as a baasds. Ahaha, love it! Also, I do the same trick of gifting Rolf Potts' books to friends I'm trying to tempt into the travel world.
