We arrived in Malaysia in a bit of a pickle - after the Perinthian Pickpocket got his sticky fingers on my wallet it didn't take us long to figure that we had a grand total of RM300 between us to last the next couple weeks of travel down to Kuala Lumpar. So im writing this now all snug as a bug on the sofa in bondi sipping coffee and eating muffins i yoinked from work, i do think i may have my rose tinted glasses on slightly mainly as im flicking through my diary...

we arrived at the border in the afternoon and after checking out of Thailand we walked over to Malaysia. The border crossing was easy enough and the customs dude checking Joanne's bag seemed more concerned if we were married than if she was carrying any concealed weapons. There was a young couple on the ferry to Phi Phi who spent pretty much the entire journey arguing with each other... well actually the woman was a complete witch and if he'd lobbed her into the sea i'd have been the first to applaud him but that's beside the point. What im trying to say is that I can pretty much guarantee that as soon as we arrived on the island their anger was replaced with pure calm. We spent our last 16RM on a below-par lunch on the way to Kuala Lumpur, confident that my bank card would work when we got there. We were dropped off in china town in the capital and headed straight to the ATM. I was already debating if i should have chicken or duck for dinner when i was told i had insufficient funds in my account.
