The 7 hour bus journey from Teotihucan to oaxaca was taken up by a marathon game of "who can make the gammiest face" with emelio, a 6 yearold Mexican girl. Once there I wandered the streets looking for a hostel and for the first time since leaving, I really felt like I was on the road so in my excitment I started listening to jonny cash, the wanderer. So as I found a hostel and wanderer in feeling quite the traveller you can imagine my disappointment when the first thing I heard was a fife accent! It turns out Liam from upper largo was kicking around in Oaxaca too. My initial disappointment faded with some good beveridge park and central fife retail park banter, plus he was a handy guide for my first night around town.

Oaxaca is a really cool city and rivals Mexico city on the colourfulness stakes. Every second door seemed to be some kind of museum so it was easy to spend a few days kicking around but the main draw was definitely the food. I was never 100% sure what it was that I was eating but whatever it was, it was awesome! My tactic was to go up to a food stall and simply say, "quarto," then to answer, "si," pretending I knew what the various questions they asked meant. The result was getting 4 unknown but awesome something-or-others.

On my second full day in the city I headed out to climb one of the nearby hills which was cool and athough shes not with me at the moment Joannes influence is still being felt. Either that or im already going slightly mad because every time I am considering doing anything I hear her disapproving little voice saying, "No James you souldnt swing on that questionable and tyre swing halfway up a hill," or "no James, you shouldnt have 6 plates of scrambled egg for breakfast to see if you can...even though its free." It's pretty much like she's right here, even though I did ignore her on the latter and really did regret it immediately. I never quite make it to the top of the hill, or the tyre swing, anyway since the draw of 4 more tacos became too powerful to resist.

I'd managed to get in most of the sights and museums after a few days so after agreeing to meet Liam at the windsor in a year or so I took my first night bus to take me further south to San cristobal.
