Having left Ridgecrest early in the morning we began our journey across the Sierra Nevada mountain range to Fresno. After a twisty and windy but extremely beautiful drive across the mountains we arrived late in the afternoon in Fresno, where we stopped over for the night. The next day it was only a short drive to Yosemite National Park, where we were shocked to find snow and below-freezing temperatures, in comparison to the glorious sunshine we had experienced the whole way around America so far! Having booked into our accomodation (non-heated canvas huts!) in Curry Village we set off exploring the rest of the park. Although it was very cold in the shade it was beautiful in the sunshine and the park was absolutely stunning.
For our first full day in Yosemite we set off exploring the famous sites the park had to offer. First on the list was Yosemite Falls, and this was followed up by the spectacular views at Tunnel View and a soaking at Bridalveil Falls! The rest of the day was spent walking around the park and visiting Half Dome, El Capitan and the valley floor. Having opted for the cheaper alternative of Meatballs for tea the previous night, we treated ourselves to an all-you-can-eat buffet before braving the freezer that was our tent!
The following day we decided to get up early and join in with a photography walk. This involved embarking on a 3 hour walk with a professional photographer around the park, learning a number of new photographic techniques. On the walk we visited Lower Yosemite Falls where we were lucky enough to see a rainbow. Then it was on to the meadows and forest on the valley floor for some stunning views of Half Dome, before finishing up at Sentinal Bridge. After a hot chocolate and soup to warm up we caught the bus over to Mirror Lake, where we spent the rest of the afternoon walking.
The following day we packed up our bags and hit the road for the last leg of our journey, back to San Fransisco. After another windy drive across the Sierra Nevada mountains, we hopped onto the freeway and took the San Matteo Bridge over the harbour before finally ending up at our last hostel.
With only one day left in America, saturday was spent shopping and packing! Having taken full advantage of the strength of the pound and bought a whole new wardrobe the evening was spent sorting and packing, before heading out for our 'last meal'!
After checking out and ditching the car, our last day was spent sat in San Fransisco Airport waiting for our flight, whiling away the time in the duty free shops and cafes! Finally, with our bags checked in, we boarded our last flight back to London, and home...
