We caught a bus to beautiful Ubud once had landed back in Bali. The town had a wonderfully laid back feel to it, contained endless temples and art galleries and was surrounded by paddy fields. On one of our walks, we ended up on the fringes of a small village and bumped into a lovely Canadian lady who recommended the organic cafe in which she was eating, so we joined her. She ended up touring us around the area for an hour or so.
On our last day in Ubud, we splashed out on a bicycle tour which took us first to breakfast by van, overlooking a vast volcanic lake and volcano, followed by a 25km downhill ride through the countryside and villages surrounding Ubud. It was stunning! The villages were so picturesque and it was fascinating to watch people at work in the paddy fields. At the end of the ride, Gen and I plumbed for an extra 10km uphill to our traditional Balinese lunch. The food was well worth it!!!!
The van dropped us back into Kuta where we stayed for 2 nights - we randomly bumped into Neil and Jane from Bournemouth again!
From Kuta, we booked another bus west to Java.
