Our Year of Adventure
Walking to the gate for our next flight to Dubai, we could see a monster of a plane on the tarmac, was that A380 ours? It certainly was - there were rows of big, wide, comfy seats as far as the eye could see and with an entertainment booklet as thick as a phone directory, it made the fourteen hour flight almost enjoyable. In Dubai we downsized to a 777 for a 'quick' seven hours to Stockholm. With every flight the clock kept going back making our day longer and longer, the upside though was another breakfast albeit spiced up with a little alcohol - it was after all the middle of the afternoon in NZ. We could feel the chill in the air when we arrived in Stockholm and to great relief, all the bags arrived intact and it was off to check in for our last flight to Luleå in northern Sweden. The final flight was over in the blink of an eye or perhaps we slept through it but regardless, we were now in a very snowy, cold Lapland - a minus fourteen Celcius cold, in fact. We quickly threw our luggage into the car, rugged up and headed for Kemi, Finland. Despite having travelled half way round the world since the morning, it was only 5pm and plenty of time left in the day for catching up with family over dinner...
