Our Year of Adventure
We had a lazy morning in the hostel before checking out and walking down to the metro. We were going to meet Andy and Carlee who were staying at a friend's apartment in Viña del Mar.
It was only a short ride on the train, but long enough to be entertained by a trio of buskers playing traditional music. They were very good and had the attention of the entire carriage with some people even taking videos on their phones.
It was a 10 minute walk up the hill to the apartment and it had spectacular views out across the bay. We had a pasta lunch before taking a walk round the shore into the town centre. The beach on the southern end of Viña was packed with loads of people braving the icy water to play around in the pounding waves.
We went for an ice cream in a sea front cafe, but were told that the wait would be 30 minutes just for a take-away ice cream. We walked through the park and bought an ice cream from a little tienda instead, and sat in the park. A group of musicians stopped and played a couple of songs for lady pushing her mother in wheelchair. Whether they knew each other or not was hard to tell, but the music was good.
We walked back up the hill to the apartment and collected our bags to go to the Viña bus station. We were booked on 8:30pm night bus to Pucon, which would take 12 hours to get there. The bus was a bit late in arriving, but once we were on it and settled into our comfy, reclining cama seats we were ready for a sleep.
