Today we decided to drive two hours into the country of Albania.
What did we learn?
Better to stay in Montenegro.
While there were some really cool old castles with origins from before Christ, the country isn't as clean, there's definitely less tourism and development.
All that said with a clear understanding of how desperate the need for the Gospel is throughout this region.
While in Shkodër we visited the Rozafa Castle. Rising impressively on a rocky hill about 430 ft above sea level, this landmark was first mentioned in written history as an Illyrian stronghold before it was captured by the Romans in 167 BC. The fortifications, as they have been preserved to date, are mostly of Venetian origin. Amazing historical site.
As we stopped at another medieval castle in the small town of Stari Grad Bar, we collectively decided to pass on the walking tour. I think after yesterday everyone is feeling bone tired and would prefer a chance to relax.
Back to Budva where Lynn and I took a stroll through the old city, foudn our miniature Budva souvenir and then headed to the condo for the night.
