Angkor temples
so for the last two days we have been explore the vast temples of angkor. once the epicentre of the angkor empire. it is now the symbol of pride for most cambodians! the main temle the angkor wat is the biggest but there is sooo many temples dotted about i dont think we could have done them all even if we were here for a week! although after the two days we are a bit templed out!
Day 1.. well of course on the first day we had to visit angkor wat. i dont think words can describe the archeitecture so hopefully my pictures will. but its absolutely stunning! so imposing and just so bloody huge!! i really think they might have been compensating a lil! lol so ive kinda started backwards, as angkor wat was our last temple on day one! but hey during the day wee saw bayon which is the centre of the angkor thom walled city. the elephant terrace and the leper king terraces, bapuon, chau say tevoda and finally Thommanon.. all unique in there own way
Day 2...well it was an early start this morning 4.30am to be precise! so early in fact that its only 12.10pm nows and we've done all our temples! lol so why 4.30 u ask. well we put ourselves through it to catch sunrise at angkor wat..to be fair wasnt that good as it was soo cloudy it just got lighter. no picture perfect view of the temple illuminated by the golden rays of dawn. just dark temple to light temple. so after the let down of sunrise we headed up to preah khan which is believed to be a buddist university then on toward ta phrom which has been used as a set for the tomb raider movie, and seems to be having a wrestle with its surroundings! very cool. between the two temples i have mentioned we stoped by various smaller ones that we equally amazing these included, preah neak pean, ta som, easternmebon pre rup before ta phrom then our last temple.. banteay kdei.
so tomorrow we head to the capital of cambodia phnom penh...
