Got a new computer charger (yay!) bad news is it's for australian plugs.... boo. oh well. I picked up nolene from the airport and we caught up and things are fun, then we met up with aaron and his brother Silver, and stayed at his brothers house IN MELBOURNE for 3 nights. Those boys, I'm telling you, are the nicest boys ever. Ever. So awesome. It was really a beautiful city, I could totally live there.... we spent one day doing touristy stuff and almost getting attacked by swans, then the next day we went to this really really cool market (I got a dark blue fifteen dollar watch) and then I went alone out of town to meet my friend Iain for lunch then we went to the beach... Beautiful. That night we went back to Geelong and caught our plane to Sydney the next morning...
So sydney is just ok.... Not great. Melbourne was way better. We were warned about staying in this area called king's cross, but didn't really have a choice because that's the only place we could find beds. Less than a block away is the strip where the tranny hookers work. We went in our room (borrowing the master key, since they didn't have an extra) and there's cockroaches on the other guys bed and in his ashtray... I say "top bunk"! We ditch our junk and go for a walk around town to get food. We hang out in a park, go check out a market then stop in this Irish pub for drinks, and join these three random guys. We hang out for 3 hours, turns out they're all journalists. Two were sports writers and the other is a tv journalist... then me and nols made our way home, where we spectated some douchebag from saskatoon making an ass of himself on our hostel roof. Sidenote: We don't have a roomkey, so we're trying to find some 18 year old kid named Steve-O who has the only key. ditch the douchbag, bedtime, where our jackass roomie Steve-O has his dutch girlfriend. awkward. He gets up at 5am for work and is the LOUDEST PERSON EVER. Me and nols discuss the fact that after the next night, we're going somewhere else. So yesterday (day 2 in sydney) we start to walk towards the opera house, and cut through these botanical gardens. There's a FREE art museum, so cool, so we go in there and poke around for a bit. Then we leave and go into the gardens. So pretty (and free) then we here all these noises in the trees, and there is HUNDREDS of these large bats (the size of small cats when balled up and hanging upside down) everywhere. So cool. We go to the opera house, get some ice cream, go to the visitor centre, find out its MINIMUM $179 to climb the bridge (veto), go to the sydney history museum, get some delicious delicious coffee, walk around some more, go into this amazing photography gallery that we just walked by (Ken Duncan, look him up his work is soooo beautiful) find an observatory but it's closed :( , almost get hit by a bike parade then randomly meeting an american woman who is on vacation with her husband, who's in a business meeting. We go get drinks with her at this one pub (where a cockroach landed on my neck. Sick) and decide to go to a different pub and while en route, meet some guys randomly on the street and we go to a bar with them. They are paratroopers with the australian army (air ninjas) and hang out with them for a few hours.... and then go home. Jackass Steve has locked us out of our room. We yell in he's got fifteen minutes then we're coming back. We come back and he's gone, then we sleep. This morning we busted it out of there like it was going out of style and now we're at Bondi Beach, just waiting for time to pass so we can check into our new hostel.
