Hello all! So here's the next installment to Dan and Rhan's adventure! Were just in Cambodia at the moment in a place called Siem Reap, a nice little town which I suppose only has one main function: to house, entertain and feed tourists who are visiting the many temples of Angkor but don't get me wrong its still a very cool place. We arrived in Seam Reap on Saturday night after traveling all day from Bangkok, which was an adventure in itself, with going over the Thai/Cambodia border. We ended up just having one day in Bangkok mainly because neither me nor Rhiannon liked the place. It had some amazing cultural sites but apart from that it's just a big city and the famous Koh San Road wasn't anything special either, it was mostly full of drunken foreigners. However one place we both loved was the temple of the sitting Buddha which was a little oasis of calm in the big city.
So three full days in Siem Reap was what we had to fit in as many temples as possible and to be honest I think we did it justice, and anyone who is reading this who has done the same I'm sure you'll agree by the third day you're all templed out. As well as temples we also visited a floating village and went by traditional fishing boat into a flooded forest which was very cool.It was a close affair but in the end our favourite temple out of the many we visited was the one that had been left to the forest, (Ta Prohm) with trees and vines growing in and out of every wall. This also happened to be where they filmed some of Tomb Raider so look out for Rhiannon the explorer in the photos! It's hard to really find anything else to say about the temples they were all amazing and really words can do little to explain what they were like, I suggest checking out the pictures and deciding for yourself.
So here we are bang up to date and its 3.30pm here on Wednesday just 5 hours before we take a night bus down to Sihanoukville to check out the south of Cambodia and some of its beaches! We've been staying in what is known as a hostel but to be honest it's more like a hotel with lovely rooms and great facilites not forgetting the crocodile farm that we just happened to miss, some how, behind the hotel. I reckon with maybe 50+ crocs, check out the big one on the picture.
Overall our first impressions of Cambodia are very good the countryside is beautiful and the people are even nicer than Thais. We also found an awesome bakery in town selling lovely French bread (one of the many things left behind from the French Protectorate) and chocolate brownies!
Anyway reckon that's all for now, speak soon xx
