I have spent the last 3 days in the little surf town of Mount Maunganui. It's a really chilled out place and the weather has been pretty good, so I've been making the most of having a couple of days at the beach, topping up my tan. I did do a bit of exploring though, and on Friday I walked up the Mount that Mount Maunganui gets it name from. It's not exactly a hike, but it was still pretty hard work cos it was quite hot and sunny. They had some bad weather which caused a small rockslide and closed the easy path off, so it was only possible to get to the top by the route rated 'difficult'. I counted (cos for some reason I always do when I walk up lots of steps), and there were 546 steps. I did it at about Midday so it was way too hot, but I made it and it was worth it. The view from the top is amazing. The Mount is at the end of a thin strip of land, with the town in the middle of it, so from the top you can see the sea on both sides and beaches and a couple of small islands out to sea. Not a particularly eventful 3 days, but relaxing!
