Sorry for the hold up, im sure you have all been waiting with bated breath for the 1st installment of my adventures, ahem.
So far I have just been in Cairns, had an amazing 23rd birthday extreme white water rafting, worked on a cruise and dive boat that goes to some uninhabited islands on barrier reef where i ran some snorkelling tours and generally sat on a white beach all day tanning it up (there was hard work too but fun too!). I have seen crocodiles in the wild, turtles, rays, octopus, nemo and friends, humpback whales breaching, pilot whales.. the list goes on, sorry to brag.
I managed to hitch some free rides on the seaplane (a tiny 6 seater plane, which lands on water) with work, over to green island. I have been wakeboarding on the cable tow on a lake, which was heaps of fun. Watched fire throwing, and lots of live bands on the esplanade, and been to all the clubs including the woolshed where we all danced on the table untill the early hours of the morning.
I stayed in hostels for the first few weeks, made so many amazing international friends, everyone becomes close very quickly out here. I sampled the local delicacy, which is of course the "goon," for those of you who have not been here before, i assure you, you are not missing out! It is the cheapest of the cheap boxed wine, and the infamous slogon "slap the goon (bag)." But it has become a staple requirement on a budget.
Once i started working, i moved into a sharehouse because the 6:30am mornings and 12 hour days were taking their toll, living with other dive crew and students, mostly aussies. So have earnt some hard earned cash, but have recently began to get itchy feet after 2 months of working. So I have one more week at work and in Cairns, then the plan is to head up north for a week, then start the east coast southbound on the hop on hop off bus.
So far, it has been amazing! Best sponteous trip I ever took! Will keep you updated on further adventures in Australia... x
